Nice Cafe is a nice cafe

Brunch was never my "thing" until I moved to Toronto. When I lived in Vancouver, the closest thing I've ever had was dimsum. As a result, when the only time that worked between my Vancouver friends and I was earlier in the day, we decided to be "classy" and meet for brunch.

Being a rookie at brunch in Vancouver, I had to do some research to select the restaurant for our party. The brunch we wanted to go to originally wasn't open, so I had to look for an alternative. I came across Nice Cafe and decided to give it a try given its high ratings online as well as its convenient location. Given the large size of our party, I thought it'd be safer to call in beforehand to make reservations. Once I arrived at the restaurant, I was thankful that I had planned ahead. The restaurant is fairly small but extremely packed, with people crowding by the door waiting.

I love egg benedicts, so I went with the classic eggs benny with no hesitance. When placing our orders, we were also given the choice of how we wanted our eggs done -- soft or medium. I didn't want my plate to get all messy, so I asked for medium poached eggs. When my plate came, I was a tad disappointed because my eggs were more cooked then I had hoped for. Overall the eggs benny was fine, although not spectacular. I really enjoyed the home fries on the side though. They tasted more like hashbrowns and I found it interesting that they added green onion to it.

A few of us felt like having a big meal, so we decided to order a poutine to share. As a poutine fan, I have to say that I was bummed out. The fries were a bit cold and the gravy didn't taste very strong and meaty, so I didn't enjoy the poutine in particular.

Despite the poutine being a downer, the rest of the group seemed to have enjoyed their meals very much. Although Nice Cafe wasn't our first choice, I'm glad we stumbled upon it. I'd definitely want to come here again the next time back!

  1. Eggs benny with hashbrowns don't look very enticing.Poutine rather small. High online ratings? Dont look at the ratings, read the reviews and read between the lines.
